Tri Matryoshka Sofinkas

Tri Matryoshka Sofinkas engages with a resolution to my religious upbringing–an imaginative home space populated by numerous Russian nesting dolls. Here, I represent three “tri” versions of myself, at different stages of life, both literally and symbolically). 6 year-old Sophia as the dolls, 11 year-old Sophia as a symbolic “containment," and present day Sophia in costume. My present self is the orchestrator wishing to re-parent my past, with six-year-old Sophia as the catalyst. Through performance and prolific dolls, I break out of this religious and social containment, leading with embracement and play and unveiling this once bottled visual culture.
