Most Work
2021-present
Through painting and installation, my work explores the self in spaces of loss and religious trauma, which toggle between the personal and universal human experience. I do not shy away from representing the body, capturing myself in unsettling yet vulnerable moments. Whether nude, crying, or exalted, I retaliate against the socio-religious expectations of how I should feel around my past.
Beyond myself as subject matter, I also explore my position as an observer of people. I conversely paint as a form of research on my family and friends, acting as a field worker would conducting an ethnography. Through honest and objective analysis, I am able to see and represent human infallibility in all its rawness.
These two evolving bodies both highlight my utter fascination of people and perception. I am unafraid to push the limits of what is too much information, especially under the guise of paint.
